Our Indulge tour has slight but thoughtful variations when compared to the Standard and Deluxe package. These include air travel and hotels that are outside busy areas offering more calm and intimacy.
Ayubowan. Your dedicated tour manager will welcome you on arrival and transfer you to your hotel in Makandura for some well needed rest and rejuvenation. The gorgeous hotel set amidst rice fields promises a grand start to your holiday. We have also arranged a village tour for you. Speak to us regarding arrival times as well as pre-tour and post tour arrangements.
We now move towards the interior of the island with our sights set on the Cultural Triangle. This will be a relatively long journey but we will make it fun with stops for refreshments and photo ops.
We have two stops on our way to the hotel. These include the ancient kingdom of Yapahuwa and a guided tour of the UNESCO World Heritage Site – Dambulla Rock Cave Complex.
Later on check in at the hotel and unwind
In the late afternoon we take on the iconic Sigiriya Lion Rock with a professional guide and watch as the sun prepares to set on the horizon
After breakfast we drive through the wilderness to reach Polonnaruwa, the second kingdom of ancient Sri Lanka. This like the previous tours will be handled by a professional and government trained guide. While it is best to enjoy this tour on a bicycle you can also opt to do it from the comfort of your air conditioned luxury car or SUV.
We will then return to the hotel for more downtime. If you are up for it we can head out to visit and hike Ritigala, an ancient monastery next to a beautiful rock face.
The hills await us in Kandy and that’s where we are headed to after breakfast.
On arrival in the sacred city of Kandy, we will visit the world renowned Temple of the Tooth, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This guided tour will cover the history of the temple, continued role in present day Sri Lanka, its architecture and artefacts.
We will then check into the hotel for some downtime. In the afternoon we will drive to visit the beautiful and sprawling Peradeniya Botanical Gardens.
For those who want to do more with the time in Kandy, we can sneak in a quick stop at the Matale Spice Gardens where you can learn all about Sri Lankan spices or do a quick climb up to the large Buddha Statue perched on a hill at BahirawaKanda.
The days activities will end with a casual stroll around the Kandy Lake and a short drive to the Look-Out point to see the city of Kandy sparkle in the valley below.
After completing breakfast we drive to the station where our Tour Manager will help you board a train. This train will travel along what is considered as one of the world’s most scenic train travel routes. This journey will cover only a part of it. You will cover more on the way to Ella.
The train will take you past lush tea estates, waterfalls, an infinite number of tunnels and treat you to beautiful scenery with every bend. As part of this package you will likely recieve tickets on an air-conditioned observation saloon. But if you are interested taking really good pictures we will secure a second class carriage which have open windows to enable you to take better pictures.
On arrival at the Nanu-Oya railway station, your Tour Manager will drive you to your hotel located close to Nuwara-Eliya. From here will explore the town, visit the Gregory Lake and enjoy High Tea at the iconic Nuwara-Eliya Grand Hotel.
We will wind down the day with a visit to a wonderful tea factory that will teach you all about the art of Sri Lankan tea, from plantation to factory and the world beyond.
Your second day in Nuwara-Eliya kicks off with an early morning drive to Horton Plains. From here you will enjoy a lovely hike through the cold climes, a visit to Baker’s falls and views from the World’s End.
After a slow and scenic drive back to the hotel, we will enjoy some downtime before heading out for dinner at the Kandy Hill Club.
Now continue the train journey from Nanu-Oya to Ella and be treated to a more rugged look of Sri Lanka’s mountain country.
On arrival, you can hike up either Little Adam’s Peak or Ella Rock
Later on we can Chill in the cool vibes of Ella town with its distinct trippy vibe
The next morning we could consider watching the train pass by on Nine Arch Bridge. This has become quite a tourist attraction but is fun nevertheless.
It’s time to leave the mountains and cool climate behind and descend into the hot wilderness of Sri Lanka’s deep south. Udawalawa will be our stop for the night.
On our way we will make a stop at Ravana falls and drive off route to visit the beautiful Diyaluma falls for some time with nature.
We will then check into the hotel and maybe even visit the nearby Elephant Transit Home.
Good morning. You are waking up with the wild beasts in Udawalawe. With a packed breakfast, we head into the jungles early on for a day Safari. An early start means you will see a lot more animals and is not uncomfortable compared to a daytime tour.
Once the Safari is done and we have said our farewells to the elephants, deer, crocodiles and the multitude of birds, we hit the road in the direction of the beaches of Mirissa.
On our way, we will stop for blessings at the Kataragama Temple and set baby turtles free and watch them dive into the Indian Ocean at a Turtle Conservation Project in Tangalle.
Today we worship at the altar of Rest & Relaxation. Just you, the beach, the sun and a whole lot of laid back.
Yesterday on repeat! More sun, sand and beach frolicking
We hit the road again to drive on for about an hour to reach the capital of Sri Lanka’s south – the city of Galle. Along the way though, we stop to take pictures of the Stilt Fishermen. We then settle into our hotel and relax for the rest of the day.
Today, we kick start the day with a delightful group tour with Mr. Shanjei of Galle Fort Walks fame. This is a fun and fact filled tour of Galle Fort, a UNESCO World HEritage Site. Once the tour is done, we will continue to explore the fort on our own and maybe visit some of the interesting shops within.
We then make our way to the Japanese Peace Pagoda located on a hill overlooking the Indian Ocean.
We return to the hotel for more R&R
It;s time to slowly bring this tour to a close by heading towards Colombo. However, on our way, we will stop at Bentota to visit The Brief – home and gardens of one of the prolific Bawa brothers who put Sri Lankan architecture on the world map.
Then we are wrapping it up in Colombo with visits to Pettah Market, the Red Mosque and Independence Square
Enjoy a farewell dinner with the team
